BIKEhouse. Project Summary
At the early stage of planning work for this project, I had a rough plan of what I wanted to build within a certain period. I divided the time I had into weeks and assigned certain tasks to them, without too many details.
Building week was the first stage. I was focused on preparing the scene for the game. I built models in Maya, as well as worked in Unity with ready-made assets. The whole workshop was created, including tools, bicycles and mentioned previously Sophie. That week was highly successful and satisfying as I managed to finish everything I wanted.
At the next stage I worked on a code inside the game. I implemented scripts allowing me to grab and snap bike elements so the player could replace faulty parts with the new one. This week was difficult, not only in terms of the technical aspect of the task I was working on, but also because of sleep deprivation.
Next, I focused on the UI in Unity. Unfortunately, I had some unforeseen problems as there was no access to the Moodle platform for 4 days due to maintenance work, which meant me being unable to reach for the learning materials from the course. I had to rely on books I have from the university’s library and internet found resources.
I managed to implement a fully working UI to the game in Unity. Sadly, not working in VR (Virtual Reality).
Controllers were another part of the game I was working on. I reached for various resources and achieved a pleasing result; a pair of moving hands working perfectly in VR on my Quest 2.
I feel satisfied with the project I built, even though it is not a complete product. I was not able to hold on to my work plan entirely and did not implement any sound elements in my game, such as a spinning wheel sound, but still worked hard to bring my idea to life.
I was able to utilize my skills and knowledge from this past year, as well as learn several new things about building projects for VR.
If I were to develop the BIKEhouse game further, while having more advanced skills, I would perfect it, as well as expand it to the cycling elements and races I mentioned at the beginning of this journey.
