Time Train field trips.
I live near the Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum and have visited it on many occasions. The recent visit though had its added meaning to it. I looked at the old underground carriages from a different perspective – I observed and analyzed them as potential assets for my VR Time Train experience, as the setting for the virtual world I am about to create.
I took photographs and talked to some volunteers at the Museum and left the site with some initial ideas for my project.
I started creating a presentation of my idea based on previous research on VR as a pain management tool topic. I have added notes and images from the field trip number one.
It was time for field trip number 2. A visit to the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, a place that offers a journey through the London buses and trains from the one using horses as their engines all the way to the Elizabeth line, the latest addition to the London tube map. It is easy to spend at least two hours just walking through its floors and briefly familiarizing yourself with the content the Museum has on offer. Luckily, I have been there numerous times and knew where the most interesting bits for my projects are located. I took photographs of the trains and famous tube posters. I made it a day out and let my family explore the place as they wished, allowing as much time as they wanted to enjoy the museum.
After another inspiring visit, I had some more reference material and thoughts and ideas to include in my presentation.
Traveling on an underground train in London is quite a unique experience, and traveling on carriages from the past as well as on the new Victoria or Elizabeth line on one journey, can only happen in VR. If we add to it some incredible events happening to the commuter-player, such as someone leaving behind a suitcase that opens itself to perform some magic, or there is Queen Elizabeth II getting on that train with her famous handbag, it can only get better and more immersive.
I was gathering thoughts, and preparing materials for the Time Train, to present it to my year group and my tutor/s so it can then be decided if my project will be the one executed in the collaboration for the final major project.
