(Theoretical) Studies.

Studying at university means learning new skills, challenging ourselves and broadening our knowledge. To achieve a desired level of professionalism in our subject, we must study its practical and theoretical aspects, as they are both connected, and one conditions and influences the other one.

Virtual Reality is being studied for decades now. It evolves rapidly and its shape seems different than it was in the past, even though the principals are still the same.

Thanks to the previous studies we are able to look at and analyze the development of VR. We know which media influenced and shaped modern VR, even though the first use of this technology was in the military, not the entertainment industry like one can think.

VR has common features with game design, but it is not game design. It is crucial to understand that VR as a discipline is in the constant process of creating its own characteristic, language, it defines itself through the practice, and the theories related to this practice.

For students like me, it is crucial to reach to various reputable and reliable resources studying, analyzing, explaining, exploring and challenging VR, to have a solid academic background allowing a deeper understanding of the field I want to build my future role within.

Therefore, we have been introduced to contextual and theoretical studies on VR through academic lectures. What we need to do next is to add an extra dedicated study time, focused on examining recommended resources, researching topics especially compelling to us, as well as experiencing VR.

We need to study VR in theory and in practice, and grow a personal expertise based on our ever-developing skills and knowledge.

As exciting as it is, it can also be challenging and overwhelming. The time for so called self-directed studies can disappear somewhere before we even start our deep research, and there is yet another class to attend, and another task to complete.
