Monday Recovery
Waiting for this Monday was like waiting for forever. I have had great expectations and hoped that a new hard drive would be a solution to my laptop’s issues.
Meanwhile, as I couldn’t work on my actual project because I didn’t have another computer being able to handle Maya, I focused on preparing documentation. I updated the blog, wrote additional notes and started a PowerPoint presentation.
Monday has arrived, and with it rather bad news. Replacing the hard drive wasn’t enough to fix my computer. There were much serious problems with it. Unfortunately, the laptop can’t be fixed. Not only I lost my data (all big and small projects I haven’t managed to export to the cloud successfully), but also, I ended up without a machine to work on. It is truly devastating.
Luckily, I have a borrowed laptop (for this week only as someone else needs it from next Monday). I managed to install Maya on it, but its performance might be questionable as the software has frozen already several times, even though I was only setting up the environment. Despite that, I am ever so grateful I have this laptop for now and am hoping to finish my project on time. At the same time, I am worried as I am unsure how I will source a computer to carry on with my VR course. Asking UAL’s IT department if I could lend one of their laptops might be a solution. As I mentioned before, in non-pandemic times, studying wouldn’t be so stressful as I would be able to work on site, at LCC.
