City Scene. Unity
My idea was to have the same city scene used as two separate scenes. At the beginning of the experience, the user would be placed on a roof of one on the buildings. In the other one, the user would land on a street level.
To bring this idea into life, I had to have the city. At first, I thought I could use one of the ready city landscapes available on the internet. I tried that but downloaded scene didn’t really work on my VR HMD as I wanted it to work.
I started building the scene myself. I looked for the assets available in the Unity Asset Store and after finding the right elements I started creating the city. I wanted it to be simple. I had the ground level, streets, various buildings, trees and grass areas. I then added cars and buses into the scene. I decided to animate two buses. I have spent long hours building this city.
I had the Skybox, I was working on earlier, ready and wanted to include it into the scene.
I also needed to add a scene lighting as when the sun was set, it was too dark. I introduced streetlamp models and assigned a specific type of lighting to each of them.
Then it was a time to tidy up the folders and to group all the assets together to make the project clear and easy to navigate.
I used the OVR Player in this scene. I placed the camera rig in the right place and then was ready for the next step.
